Members of parliament on the health committee have grilled the ministers of health over high pricing of medicines by the National medical stores.
The MP for Ntwetwe county Joel Sebikali said that the ministry of health is not acting on the high price of drugs caused by the National drug stores
The chairperson of the health committee who is also mp for Bukuya county Dr.Micheal Bukenya revealed that the Uganda cancer institute could have accessed drugs at cheaper price from somewhere else but the ministry refused to approve their request despite of the intervention by the solicitor general approving such procurement to enable the Uganda cancer institute to save 2 billion shillings to run the institute effectively.
The minister rejected MPS arguments that NMS essential drugs are expensive and asked them to take time and compare it with other drug warehouse doing the same work.
She said that the committee should summon the top officials on the National medical stores to explain the alleged over pricing of drugs.
