KCCA is seeking for 700 million shillings to procure sanitary pads for primary school girls in Kampala.
KCCA Acting Director in charge of Education department Juliet Namuddu revealed this while appearing before the parliamentary committee on education saying that the money is needed but was not provided in the financial year 2018/19 therefore calling for parliament intervention .
Namuddu said that the procurement of sanitary pads will benefit over 40,000 girls from primary four to primary seven in government aided schools.
She said that the provision of pads which are reusable for 3 years would contribute to reversal of drop out of girls from school .
KCCA also wants 620 million shillings to improve library services, including buying reading materials to equip community libraries as a strategy to improving the reading culture and literacy rate
