Manchester City went top of the Premier League table on a goal difference after beating Tottenham Hotspur on Monday night.
Riyad Mahrez struck early in the first half at Wembley to hand Pep Guardiola’s men a deserved win. Mahrez converted it home from Raheem Sterling’s sixth-minute cross that eventually became the winning goal.
He then dedicated his goal to the dead Leicester owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha in a helicopter crash at King Power Stadium on Saturday.
It has been very, very difficult Owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha Confirmed Dead in a Helicopt for me,” the Algerian told Sky Sports.
“The boss was very special to me. I spent four and a half years there and have many memories with him.
“He was such a good person and had a big heart. It was heart-breaking and shocking for me to hear this news and for all of the other people who died with him. I am with Leicester and the family of the victims.”
Mahrez joined Leicester from Le Havre for £400,000 and later to Manchester City last summer.
Sergio Aguero, David Silva and Sterling had chances to extend City’s lead but were all denied.
Erik Lamela had an opportunity to equalize from substitute Dele Alli‘s pass.
Manchester City are now the table leaders with Liverpool the second on a goal difference.
