Police in Fort Portal has summoned three Tooro Human Rights activists to answer charges of sedition over statements made on Beta FM – a local FM station based in Fort Portal regarding the burning of Kasubi tombs and the death of former Defense Ministry permanent Secretary, Brig. Noble Mayombo.

The three who are supposed to appear are Joram Bintamanya and Businge Prosper who belong to Twerwaneho Listeners Club, a local Human Rights Organization and Tom Mboijana, the FDC secretary for Kabarole district.

It is alleged the two Human Rights activists while on a radio talk show last week blamed Government for the deaths of innocent civilians in the recent Kasubi inferno and delays to produce a report on the death of former Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Defense Brigadier Noble Mayombo.

While addressing a press conference in Fort portal, the Coordinator of Twerwaneho Listeners Club, Kankya Gerald noted that the local leadership has been working hard to silence independent voices that comment openly on problems facing the region. Kankya says, government should find answers to questions raised.

Bintamanya called upon all members of the Public especially to rally behind what he referred to as the suppressed voices in Tooro.

Twerwaneho Listeners Club came to prominence when its panelists at Life FM were arrested and the programme closed over critical remarks to the government.
