The ministry of health wants each district to have its own drug store for the easy distribution of drugs at county level.
The Minister for Health, Dr. Steven Malinga says complaints of drug scarcity are arising because the people who are supposed to requisition for the drugs at the National Drug store in Entebbe take long or sometimes are reluctant.
The minister’s remarks come amidst several complaints from the public that most of the up country government hospitals have no drugs.
On several occasions, government has blamed drug shortages on delays by districts to purchase the drugs.
Dr. Malinga urges that if each district manages its own drugs it will be easy for the local leaders to ensure that the local people access treatment and most importantly, essential drugs.
