Thirty people in Kayunga district who are charged with inciting violence and disobeying lawful police orders during last year’s September riots have protested the continued delay by the state prosecutor to complete investigations into their case.
The suspects whose case is before the Kayunga district grade one magistrate, Esther Nasambu say their case has dragged on for a long time well as no one has come up in court as state witness to pin them.
The magistrate has vowed to throw out the case if the state fails to produce witnesses in court next week. The protests took place after Buganda King, Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi was blocked from going to preside over a function in Kayunda, an area where the majority bagweri claim they have an independent cultural institution that Buganda should respect.
Meanwhile, two Kayunga district FDC officials, who were a fortnight ago remanded to Ntenjeru prison by court in Kayunga district have been granted bail.
The FDC officials include Asadi Naliku and Johnson Mukasa who are charged with assaulting a police officer during an FDC rally in Kayunga town.
They have been released after the grade one magistrate Esther Nasambu ruled that bail is a constitutional right which should be enjoyed by everyone irrespective of his or her political party.
