The Parliamentary Public Accounts Committee has today rejected a request by the Vice President, Prof. Gilbert Bukenya to appear before the committee to answer queries raised by the Auditor General on CHOGM expenditure.
Prof. Bukenya wrote to the committee, seeking for audience to explain his role as chairman of the Cabinet CHOGM sub-committee where he directed the purchase of cars used during CHOGM at a cost of almost sh10b.
Committee chairman, Nandala Mafabi told the media today in Kampala that as far as the committee is concerned, any hearings for the Vice President closed two weeks ago and he will not be given another opportunity since he snubbed their invitation more than twice.
Mafabi adds that the committee has a timetable which will be followed until the end of the CHOGM probe. The debate on whether Prof. Bukenya should appear before the committee or not was an issue of debate, with the Cabinet ruling that he was not mandated to appear before the committee.
