The Iranian president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has arrived in Uganda today for two-day state visit.
The Minister of Uganda for International Relations, Henry Oryem says Ahmadinejad’s visit is in return of President Yoweri Museveni’s visit to Iran last year.
Sources say the Iranian President will use his visit to Uganda to lobby Uganda not to support the threats to impose sanctions on Iran over its nuclear programme.Uganda is a non permanent member on UN Security Council.
Although Iran says its nuclear programme is for development purposes, the International Atomic Energy Agency, the UN nuclear monitoring body, referred the case to the Council.
President Ahmadinejad is also expected to discuss diplomatic relations and trade deals between Iran and Uganda with his host, President Museveni.
