The government of Uganda has been asked to consider re-introducing the double shift system of teaching in schools.

The system which was introduced in the 1970s was later suspended after its viability was questioned by education experts.

In a move to cater for the increasing number of pupils in Primary schools, the ministry of Education and Sports embarked on pilot studies for double shifts in selected primary schools across the country.

But the studies proved that the scheme was not viable for UPE schools, forcing the ministry to suspend it.

Education consultant, Fagil Mandy is now proposing that the system be readopted for the secondary school under the Universal Secondary Education.
