MPs abolish compulsory membership on youth councils

Members of Parliament have today abolished compulsory membership of youths on a village youth council.

The MPs say the youths should willingly become members of the village youth council.

Parliament has considered this new provision in the National Youth Council Amendment Bill 2008 today.

The National Youth Council Amendment Bill 2008 provides that a village youth council shall only consist of youths who reside in a village and are willing to be members of the village youth council.

The MPs also disagree on provisions of the amended bill that provide that decisions of the village youth council binds on all youths in a village including non members.
