The Uganda Young Democrats (UYD), a youth wing of opposition Democratic Party (DP) is divided on which candidate to support in the coming presidential elections.

Some UYD members vow to rally behind the LC5 chairperson of Gulu, Norbert Mao as the party’s presidential flag bearer, while others said want to support an Inter Party Coalition presidential candidate.

The 2011 presidential elections will take place in February 2011.

The Legal Advisor of DP, Mukasa Mbidde says Mao is the only candidate who would sell Uganda opposition parties and DP in particular.

But Paul Kasimagwa, the youth leader in DP breakaway faction headed by MP Lulume Bayiga says Col. Kiiza Besigye who is expected to run for president on Inter Party Coalition ticket has gained popularity.

However, Mukasa says many voters in Uganda prefer Mao than Besigye.

Another Besigye supporter in DP says the Colonel has money and military background needed to gain public support.

Mukasa Mbidde says Mao has a lot of friends abroad, who would fund his presidential bid.

Mbidde further asked Ugandans to start electing young people like Mao for President.

Mbidde also says DP will solve the wrangles in DP before 2011 general elections.
