Jinja High Court has denied to honour a bail application filed by the former police District Commander of Mukono, James Peter Aurien.

Aurien is on remand at Kirinya prison. He is accused of shooting dead his wife, Christine Apolot on April 20 2008.

It is said the police commander suspected Apoloti of committing adultery.

The court recently released Aurien on grounds that there was no substantive evidence against him.

But he was re-arrested and remanded to Kirinya prison due to pressure from human rights activists.

Aurien applied for bail on grounds that he has heart problems and that he is too old to withstand the harsh conditions in Uganda prison.

Justice Irene Mulyagonja Kakooza of Jinja High Court denied him bail on grounds that she wasn’t convinced that he has serious health problems.

The judge also feared that if the suspect is released he could  become a threat to the witnesses in the case whose trial begins in June 2010.
