The sitting residents of Nakawa-Naguru estate have defied President Museveni’s directives to vacate the estate.
This has brought confusion over the proposed redevelopment of the Nakawa-Naguru estate.
President Museveni last week ordered that the people occupying the estate be evicted to give way for the redevelopment of the estate.
In his letter to the local government minister, Adolf Mwesige, Museveni warned that Uganda risked losing investors and directed the minister to hand over the estate to the developer- Opec Prime Properties Ltd by May 30th.
The President also directed that the sitting tenants be given first priority to buy the flats after the estates is rebuilt to modern standards.
The tenants led by Sarah Eperu of FDC vowed not to leave before the government gives them alternative land.
Eperu appeals to the government to consider the fact that most tenants are too poor to buy the modern flats.
She also threatens to stage a sit-down demonstration at State House Nakasero protesting against the pending eviction.
