The Uganda police force is set to create a unit that will arrest health workers that steal drugs from government health centers and hospitals.
This follows a directive from the Uganda President Museveni in his State of the Nation Address at delivered at Uganda Parliament in Kampala yesterday.
President Museveni directed the Uganda Police force to create a unit that deals with drugs theft in the country.
The Inspector General of Police, Kale Kayihura has told Ultimate Media in Kampala that the directive takes immediate effect and that the police will create the Anti- Drugs’ theft Unit as soon as possible.
Kale Kayihura says the unit will focus on tackling the aspects president pointed out concerning theft of drugs from government hospitals and health centers, like creation of ghost health centers, stealing drugs by health workers and smuggling drugs to neighboring countries.
Kayihura says the police has worked with Ministry of Health before, but in other areas and hopes that the ministry will cooperate with the police to implement the directive.
