Dr. Sam Okware

The Director General of the Uganda National Health Research Organization Dr. Sam Okware has urged the various religious leaders to mobilize communities against HIV/AIDS.

This comes at a moment when the Uganda is focusing on renewed action and commitment after realising that the prevalence rates of HIV/AIDS have stagnated the last seven years and noting that the only to push those rates further down is by renewing commitment in the fight against HIV/AIDS.

Okware has told the Uganda Parliamentary Committee of HIV/AIDS that much of the work than by religious leaders is in relation to communities and therefore they can easily mobilize communities against HIV/AIDS.

Okware says religious leaders should also promote chastity and faithfulness amongst the followers of the various religions.

He says religious leaders in Uganda can do this by providing counseling to their religious followers on issues concerning HIV/AIDS.
