The Minister of State for Sports Charles Bakabulindi has promised the government’s full support to the Ugandan Cranes to prepare and participate in the Africa Nation’s Championships finals due in Sudan next year.
Bakabulindi says the government is very happy with the Crane’s performance which has enabled Uganda to qualify for the first major continental competition since the 1978 Ghana African cup of nation’s finals.
He congratulated the Uganda Cranes says the government will adequately fund the Ugandans Cranes team and appealed to all Ugandans to continue supporting the national soccer team.
Uganda Cranes qualified for the Sudan CHAN finals on away goals rule after losing 2-1 to Harambe stars of Kenya in Sunday’s decider. Ugandan had won the Kampala match at Namboole national stadium 1-0.
Uganda Cranes looked headed for a sweat away victory after Mike Sserumaga’s superbly converted free kick eanred the Ugandans a 1-0 halftime lead in the away game in Kenya, but the Harmabe stars returned with purpose and scored two goals to win 2-1.
The CHAN competitions are played by national teams using their local based players, unlike the Africa Cup of Nations which also includes international professionals of respective countries.
