The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has launched a week long campaign to sensitize Ugandans on what this opposition party has described as a fair electoral process.
The FDC and other member parties of the Interparty Corporation have on several occasions expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of the current Electoral Commission, calling for its disbandment ahead of the 2011 general elections.
Addressing the press at FDC head offices in Kampala today, the spokesperson of FDC, Wafula Ogutu said members of Inter-party coalition were prompted by reports of some none Ugandans being registered as voters in various parts of the country.
However, the Secretary of Electoral Commission, Sam Rwakojo says that unless political leaders and other stakeholders cooperate, it will be hard for the commission to block foreigners from registering.
He adds that there is no mechanism to differentiate between Ugandans, and some people from the neighboring countries like Rwanda, Burundi and Kenya.
Rwakojo now calls on all stakeholders to be on the lookout to help the commission in cleaning up the register.
