Uganda government Cabinet has passed a Building Control Bill, a bill aimed at dealing with the problem of collapsing buildings in Uganda especially the congested Kampala city.
The bill has now been taken to Parliament for debate before it can be passed into law or rejected altogether.

This comes at a time where the country has seen a number of buildings collapsing causing loss of lives and financial losses with no particular people being punished for such unfortunate scenarios.
The Minister of State for Housing Michael Werikhe told the press in Kampala that culprits
Werikhe says the bill therefore was formulated to beef up the existing laws on housing so that substandard work can be checked.
The minister pointed out people like local leaders who fail to supervise the construction of some buildings to ensure their quality and safety yet it is their duty.
President Museveni recently proposed tough punishments for engineers who supervise buildings which collapse because it leads to loss of people’s lives.
