Uganda will host the 29th Annual General Meeting and Symposium of Shelter Afrique, a housing organization that has over thirty member countries in Africa.
The conference is slated for 14th to 17th June 2010 at Speke Resort Munyonyo in Kampala under the theme “Dialogue on Housing Policies in Africa.
Shelter Afrique’s Annual General Meetings are hosted on a rotational basis by member countries, and so far 28 meetings have been held in different member countries.
The Minister of State for Housing Michael Werikhe told journalists at the Uganda Media Centre today (8th June, 2010) that the meeting provides a unique opportunity to Uganda to strengthen its housing sector, which lags behind in many aspects.
The Director of Housing in the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, William Walaga indicated that many Ugandans are not aware of the loans that can be accessed from Shelter Afrique to put up housing structures because of lack of awareness about the organization.
Walaga says, unlike financial institutions in most cases with inadequate funds to funding the Ugandan housing sector, Shelter Afrique has a bulk of loanable funds to help develop the housing sector in the country.
He says Uganda will be given special considerations in accessing housing funds which will be a big boost to Uganda’s housing sector because it is ing this year’s meeting .
