The leader of the opposition is parliament Prof. Ogenga Latigo has appealed to the government of Uganda to put up a national remembrance day so that Uganda’s violent past can be remembered and reflected on.
He says the National Heroes day celebration is just a waste of government’s time and resources because the NRM government doesn’t respect what it fought for.
Latigo who is also the FDC Northern Uganda Vice president and MP for Agago County says the NRM government continues to swindle elections to win elective political positions when electoral multi-practices is one of the reasons that took the NRA to the bush.
Today (9th June, 2010) Uganda celebrated the National Heroes day. National celebrations were held in Luweero district and president Museveni was the chief guest.
Over 100 people were awarded the Nalubaale medals for their contribution to the bush war struggle including the wife of the FDC president, Hon. Winnie Byanyima.
Latigo says, the national remembrance day would enable Ugandans reflect on their violent past encompassing the UNLF struggles that toppled dictator Idi Amin and NRA bush war that toppled Obote so that a way forward for a better future can be forged.
