Five members of the Inter-Party Coalition (IPC) who were arrested by Uganda Police last Wednesday over participating in what the Uganda police called an illegal demonstration in Kampala have been charged at Buganda Road Court.
They accused persons include Sam Mugumya, a personal political assist to the President of Forum for Democratic Change, Dr. Kizza Besigye, Aggrey Njojo and Yasin Kalemba among others.
The suspects have been charged with holding an unlawful assembly in Kampala without prior permission from Uganda police.
Prosecution says that the accused persons committed the offence on the 9th this month, while protesting against the Uganda government’s continued failure to disband the Uganda Electoral commission led by Eng. Badru Kigundu.
The members of the IPC have continued to ignore assurances by the Electoral Commission on delivering free and fair elections and accuse the commission of being biased towards the ruling National Resistance Movement party.
The opposition suspects appeared before Buganda road court grade one magistrate, Francis Kobusheshe who released them on a non cash bond of 500,000 Uganda shillings while their sureties signed bond worth one million shillings not cash.
They have been directed to report back to Court on the 25th of this month for mention of their case.
