The World Cup fever has gripped Uganda’s Capital City Kampala. The 2010 world cup to be held in South Africa – the first time such an international event is held in the African continent starts today at 5:00pm with the opening march between South Africa and Mexico.

In some areas of Kampala today, shopkeepers temporarily closed their shops to gaze at the enthusiastic fans that were marching through the streets, clad in T- shirts bearing MTN logos and blowing trumpets and singing.
MTN Uganda together with Coca Cola bottling company are behind the showing the opening match on giant screens at Nakivubo Stadium.
One of the enthusiastic fans waiting to watch the world cup at Nakivubo, Musa Sekibogo told Ultimate Media that he cannot wait for the kick-off time because he is eager to watch this world cup.
Sekibogo says that he is eager because it is the first time Africa is hosting world cup, he has hope that African teams will perform much better than they have been performing in the previous World Cup tournaments.
The fans interested in watching the opening match at Nakivubo will have to part with 2,000 Uganda shillings but will be given free sodas and MTN airtime worth 1,000 shillings upon payment for the match.
Other matches that will be shown at Nakivubo under the same arrangement include the quarterfinal matches, the semi- final matches and finals.
MTN is the official sponsor of the 2010 FIFA world cup that will take place in South Africa and thus the first World Cup tournament to be hosted in the continent of Africa.
