The Uganda opposition Member of Parliament Abdu Katuntu has said that the recent beating of the Uganda Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) leader Dr. Kiiza Besigye shows the country’s political situation is deterioting.

He says, if the situation doesn’t improve, the country’s political situation will soon only be comparable to Zimbabwe where political intimidations, arrests beatings and killings are the order of the day in a government headed by President Robert Mugabe.
Besigye was beaten by Uganda anti–riot police and the highly criticized Kiboko Squad on 9th June 2010 when the country was celebrating the National Heroes day. Besigye was demonstrating with other opposition party leaders under their lose coalition of the Inter-party coalition.
The Uganda Inspector General of Police Kale Kayihura recently denied knowledge of the operations and whereabouts of the Kiboko squad.
Katuntu appealed to Uganda voters to resist political intimidation and vote candidates of their choice in the coming 2011 Uganda general elections so as to get country of the current political mayhem.
The MP says political intimidation is a sign of lack of political legitimacy by the current government. He says the ruling government lacks support because of continued electoral malpractices and bad governance.
The police spokesman Judith Nabakooba recently indicated that the Uganda Police is going to investigate and prosecute people responsible for the beatings.
