The German national football team registered the biggest wins of the 2010 FIFA World Cup on Sunday evening outclassing the Australia national football team 4-0 in their Group D match.
The Germans looked in the control from the onset passing the ball with typical German efficiency and it wasn’t long before they got the first goal.

In the 7th minute, striker Lukas PODOLSKI scored superbly with a left effort after compatriot Miroslav KLOSE had made a perfect pass from the right. Close made it 2-0 in the 27th minute with a swerving header after having missed some good chances.
By the interval, German’s advantage was written in bold, but the Australians seemed to have come for the second half with some good ideas and they made some good moves that troubled the German defense for some early minutes in the second half.
But the organized German defense supported by an effective midfield didn’t allow Australia much room to explore more towards the German goal and the Australians were once again on their back from German pressure minute after minute.
Australia’s misery was worsened by the dismissal of Tim CAHILL who was red carded in the 56th minute for a dangerous tackle on German midfielder Bastian SCHWEINSTEIGER.
The Germans who won the World Cup in Switzerland in 1954, on home soil in 1974 and in Italy in 1990, dictated matters and were rewarded by a third goal from hard working midfielder Thomas MUELLER who scored their 3rd goal to give more misery to over exposed Australia goalkeeper Mark SCHWARZER in the 68th minute.
With the Germans in full control, substitute CACAU made it 4-0 a few minutes after coming on the pitch for Close and confirmed German as favourites of the group getting maximum points to become level with Ghana who beat Serbia 1-0 in the earlier Group D match.
German coach Joachim Low will be impressed with the result, the highest score and entertaining display that could have generated twice the goals, but given his demanding demeanor throughout the match, he will not be content until the Germans are safe with at least two matches won in the Group stages.
German will travel to Nelson Mandela Bay/ Port Elizabeth to face Serbia on 18 June, ending the opening round of matches against Ghana at Johannesburg’s Soccer City Stadium on 23 June.
For Australia, it was a bad match and will hope to play better against Ghana and Serbia to stand any chance of getting out of the group stages and repeat their performance in 2006 when they topped their group.
