The Network for African Parliamentarians is carrying out campaign to have all various Parliaments in Africa come up with committees on Millennium Development Goals (MDG’s) in their various Parliaments to ensure easy implementation.
The MDG’s are access to universal primary education, eradication of extreme poverty and hunger, promoting gender equality and women empowerment, reducing child mortality, improving maternal health, combating HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases, ensuring environmental sustainability and developing a global partnership for development.
The campaign which has been introduced in Uganda and Ethopia will also be taken to all African countries.
The Chairperson of the network Sani Sandali told journalists at Uganda Parliament today that the campaign will help people share best practices on MDG’s implementation.
Sandali says that once committees on MDG’s are formed, African Parliaments will be in a better position to effectively push and partner with the Executive Arm of Government to ensure adherence to the Goals.
She says the network will also encourage Civil Society Organizations partner with the legislature to ensure effective implementation of MDGs.
