The Mayor of Kampala, Hajji Nasser Sebaggala has asked vendors at Nakasero market in Kampala to support him retain his post as city mayor.
Sebaggala said this on Monday at Kampala City Council head quarters while awarding Nakasero market vendors a market lease for five years.
He says that since the management and re-development of the market site is now entirely in vendors’ hands for the whole stipulated period, it is time the vendors start supporting him for Kampala mayor in the coming 2011 Uganda General elections.
Sebaggala says the vendors should support his political bid in exchange for his support to renew the lease for an extra period of 49 years.
He also appealed to all factions within the market to cooperate for the development of their premises.
This follows a petition by a minority group of vendors who asked court to block the awarding of the lease to the current market leadership that it’s illegal.
