The Uganda mainstream Democratic Party (DP) headed by Nobert Mao is soon likely to join the Uganda opposition coalition arrangement called the Inter-Party Coalition (IPC) after the deputy DP spokesman John Kakande told journalists in Kampala today that the party is forming a committee to negotiate joining the coalition.

Kakande says the party is considering joining the IPC because change of political leadership which is most likely to be achieved through a united front by the opposition in the coming 2011 Uganda general elections is it’s primary objective.
This follows the declaration by the breakaway faction of the Democratic Party headed by Dr. Lulume Bayiga to join the IPC.
The newly elected Mukono North MP Betty Nambooze also recently appealed to the DP leadership to consider joining the IPC to ensure a united opposition in the coming 2011 Uganda elections.
The Deputy DP spokesman indicated that DP’s continued resistance to join the IPC should not be taken as a sign of bad blood between the Uganda opposition political parties in the IPC and DP.
This is good news to Uganda’s opposition as it increases its chances of beating the incumbent NRM party headed by President Yoweri Museveni in the coming elections.
The parties now under the IPC arrangement are FDC, JEEMA, CP and UPC. The Uganda Social Democrats Party headed by Michael Mabbike has also expressed interest to join the IPC.
