The Parliamentary Local Government committee wants the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) to reopen a court file against four Kampala City Council officials in which over a billion shillings was diverted from the council accounts.
The Auditor General’s office found that about one billion shillings meant for the operations of departments in KCC was withdrawn from the collection account for all government grants.
The officials implicated include former KCC Town Clerk, James Ssegane, former Director of Finance, Ssebina Prossy, Apollo Turyamusima and former Deputy Director of Finance, Bazil Bataringaya.
The MP for Kalungu South, Anthony Yiga says that the committee wants the DPP and the police to launch an investigation into the matter since KCC are reluctant to follow up the matter.
