The Police in Kampala will start overnight patrols in most parts of Kampala and city suburbs in order to curb the rising rate of accidents taking place at night.
The officer in charge of traffic at Kampala central police Station, Norman Musinga tells journalists that police in Kampala have noted that most of the accidents take place at night due to the presence of many drunk drivers.
Musinga says due to increased levels of drinking amongst Ugandans, many people drive while they are drunk and end up causing accidents on Uganda’s roads.
He says the police has decided to start night patrols on all major roads in order to arrest persons driving while drunk and impound their vehicles as a way to reduce on the vice of drunk driving.
Musinga says many accidents have been recorded in areas of Kawempe, Kbuli and Nakawa during the night and police will start night operations in all these areas.
