Belgian born journalist, Else De Termmerman has left The New Vision where she has been Editor in Chief since 30th November 2006.
Her Deputy, Barbra Kaija has been appointed to take over as Editor in Chief at the government of Uganda owned The New Vision, which is the leading newspaper in Uganda, with several sister media outlets.
The Vision Group Chief Executive Officer, Robert Kabushenga says the company’s Board appointed Barbara Kaija after Temmerman’s contract expired on April 18th 2010.
But reliable sources have told Ultimate Media that Temmerman had long asked to leave after she got a juicy deal to go taker over a Sudanese newspaper.
Kaija has worked at The New Vision since 1992 when she joined as a Sub-editor trainee from her teaching job. She rose through the ranks to become Sub- Editor, Deputy Features Editor and later Features Editor, a position she held for eight years. She was appointed Deputy Editor in Chief of The New Vision in September 2006, and has now scooped the top Editorial position at Uganda’s leading media house.
The Editor in Chief at The New Vision is responsible for directing and maintaining high quality of the editorial content of the company’s media outlets.
The New Vision is the leading brand of the Vision Group which owns Vision Printery and several media outlets including Sunday Vision, Luganda daily Bukedde and Bukedde Ku Sande, Etop in Iteso, Rupiny in Luo and Orumuri in Runyakitara. The New Vision also runs magazines Bride and Groom, Flair for Her, Premiership and City Beat. They also recently launched into the broadcasting industry and own Vision Voice radio, Rupiny fm, Etop fm, Radio West, Bukedde fm and Bukedde TV.
Else De Temmerman, a former Belgian journalist reported widely on the conflict in northern Uganda and in southern Sudan, authored a book, Aboke Girls, and founded a Child soldier’s organization, before she got her top appointment as Editor in Chief at The New Vision.
