Uganda Parliament has passed a bill on emoluments and benefits of the Uganda President, Vice President and the Prime Minister after their retirement.

The Uganda State Minister for Public Service Seezi Mbaguta told journalists at Parliament that the bill is aimed at improving the welfare of the President, the Vice President and the Prime Minister after their retirement.

However, Uganda Parliament blocked the passing of the clause in the Presidential Emoluments bill that gave benefits to the spouses of Uganda President.

The Uganda Member of Parliament for Northern Uganda district of Dokolo Cecilia Ogwal says the bill should only provide for direct benefits to the President.

Ogwal says that it will be upon the Presidents discretion to pass on such benefits his spouses.

The Dokolo MP who is referred to as Uganda’s Iron Lady says allowing benefits to the presidents spouses can cause a heavy financial burden to the country in scenarios where the President has more than one spouse.

The passing of the Bill is good news to Uganda former President Godfrey Binaisa who recently complained to Uganda Government for not adequately receiving his retirement benefits.
