The Uganda Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban development has constructed 13 new regional offices to decentralize land issues in the country.

The development comes after Uganda Government recently passed the controversial Land Amendment Bill which empowers tenants from unlawful evictions from their landlords.

The Spokesperson of the Uganda Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban development Dennis Obbo told the press in Kampala today (June 25th 2010) that the measure will enable more Ugandans have access to land services.

Some of the districts with the new regional land offices are Gulu, Lira, Jinja, Mansindi, Kibaale, Wakiso, Mukono, Masaka, Mbarara, Arua, Kabarole, Mbale and Kampala

The lands ministry official says that the Uganda lands ministry has also made tremendous achievements in the last few years citing the acquisition of 2600 hectares of land from absentee landlords in Kibaale district of western Uganda and the implementation of the National Slum Upgrading strategy among others.

Obbo adds that the ministry has also strengthened measures to fight corruption tendencies among its officials to ensure better land services delivery to Uganda citizens.
