The students of Makerere University put Uganda’s minister for Trade, Tourism and Industry, Maj. Gen. Kahinda Otafiire to task to explain his reported ownership of large chunks of land in Buganda kingdom yet most indigenous people in Buganda are landless.
Otafiire was reportedly at Makerere today to attend a political debate on land that was organized by members of Uganda Young Democrats at Senate Building, Makerere University.
After giving a key note speech, a verbal exchange between the minister and the students ensued, according to Bernald Luyiga, the LCV councilor, representing Makerere University to Kampala City Council.
The students started the exchange by questioning Otafiire on his alleged land ownership at the expense of the landless. Otafiire denied ownership of land in Buganda Region and the debate continued.
