The President of Uganda, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has hailed the people of Bundibugyo in western Uganda for their contribution in the defeat of the Allied Democratic Forces rebels that once terrorized western Uganda, especially the Rwenzori sub-region.
Museveni says the people of Bundibugyo refused to support the rebels and always reported their activities to security agencies, which helped in the defeat of the Allied Democratic Force rebels led by Jamil Mukulu.
Museveni who was in Bundibugyo on a sensitization tour of the government programme on prosperity for all urged the people in Bundibugyo to be vigilant for any people who might want to destabilize the region again.
There have been reports that the Allied Democratic Forces rebels who were operating from the Mountains of the Moon or Rwenzori off neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo are regrouping and might launch attacks on Uganda.
But Museveni said no one can removed the democratically elected government by force of arms and the President instead appealed to the remaining rebels to surrender to the government and get forgiven under the Amnesty Act.
Museveni also appealed to the people of Bundibugyo to take advantage of government programmes especially the national Agricultural Advisory Services to undertake commercial farming and earn incomes to improve their livelihood.
