UN warns Ugandan Leaders on contraceptives

The United Nations has asked Ugandan political leaders to stop uttering sweeping statements, which undermine the use of contraceptives in the country.

Several politicians including President Museveni have been urging Ugandans to produce more and more children, in what they say will improve the country’s market base.

Experts are however questioning the relevance of a big but poor population.

The United Nations Population Fund country Director, Janet Jackson, says investing in birth control would make more economic sense for the country as it will reduce the country’s maternal mortality rate tremendously.
