The Secretary General of the ruling party in Uganda, NRM, Amama Mbabazi has asked party members with intentions of contesting for various positions to avoid resorting to the smear campaign, which could in turn tarnish the image of the party.
The ruling NRM party is set to hold its delegates conference in August this year, during which new office bearers will be elected to replace the assisting ones.
The position of the secretary general, National NRM chairperson, Treasurer and Deputy Treasurer are among those posts that have attracted competition among others.
The NRM members competing for the post of NRM Secretary General are Prof. Gilbert Bukenya, Maj. Gen. Kahinda Otafiire and MP Theodore Sekikubo among others.
Mbabazi says it is important to keep the spirit of the party as the country prepares for the 2011 general elections.
