Twerwaneho Listeners Club forms grass-root networks in Kabarole and Kyenjojo Districts

Twerwaneho Listerners Club a human rights non-governmental organization operating in the four districts of Kyenjojo, Kyaka, Kamwenge and Kabarole that makes up Tooro region and based in Fort Portal has in the last two days been training Human Rights Defenders in special skills of promoting and defending Human Rights. The organization draws command and respect from the grass root communities as a result of its popular radio programs that put leaders to task to account for the positions they hold and promotion of the rights of the local people through sensitization.

The new networks formed after the training have been commissioned to continue spreading the same news to grass root levels. The commissioned teams will be assisted by the organization to carry out advocacy on salient issues that undermine fundamental rights of people at the grass roots.

Twerwaneho came to the lime light through radio programs that started in 2007 but operating informally.

However, after a deliberate protracted struggle to suppress freedoms of expression and association, Twerwaneho was turned in to a Human Rights Club in 2008 with a core objective of promoting and protecting fundamental Rights violated by the state and non state actor. This came after the Civil, Political rights activists  were arrested and prosecuted for charges that were later dismissed in courts of law for no substantial evident to show inciting violence. The activist had called for the arrest and prosecution of suspected arsonist attackers on the radio transmitter in Fort Portal
