Resident District Commissioners (RDCs) have vowed to participate and campaign for the ruling National Resistance Movement organization during the 2011 polls.
The RDC for Kawempe Division, Edward Sekabanja has said no one can stop them from campaigning for President Museveni. He says RDCs are representatives of the president and therefore when the president is campaigning they too have to campaign.
Sekabanja was reacting to remarks by the Permanent Secretary in the office of the President, Tecla Kinalwa who said that RDC should not campaign for the ruling party candidates in 2011.
RDC Sekabanja says banning them from campaigns is like stopping President Museveni from campaigning for presidency. Sekabanja says that although they are civil servants their roles are political in nature.
According to the constitution of Uganda, RDCs are supposed to coordinate government programmes and oversee the implementation of social services.
