The Buganda Lukiiko (Parliament) is meeting this morning over poverty in Buganda, Uganda and little revenue collections that have hindered development projects in the central region of Uganda.
The Secretary to the Lukiiko, David Ntege says today’s session will pass the kingdom’s budget for the financial year 2010/2011.
The Buganda kingom budget for 2009/2010 was 19 billion shillings. Ntege says this year’s budget is going to be lower than that of the previous year because the central government closed the kingdom’s radio station in September last year due to political reasons.
He says the kingdom now has no channel of communication to mobilize funds from donors and local population. Ntege says the sales from Buganda certificates have reduced following the closure of CBS. According to the programme, the Lukiiko will also discuss the reconstruction of the burnt Kasubi tombs. The Lukiiko has been opened by the Katikkiro of Buganda, Eng. JB Walusimbi.
