The Single Pump Owner’s and Operator’s Association wants Parliament to amend the Petroleum Supply Act 2003 so that it can allow the legal recognition of small investors in the fuel business.
The law in its current form does not recognize the small scale fuel investors.
The Public Relations Officer of the Association Ashraf Kayiwa has told the media at the National Theatre that the association is going to petition the speaker such that there is an amendment to the law concerning this issue.
The association has also urged the government to change its directive that demanded that all fuel dealers must have their licenses renewed by 1st September 2010.
Kayiwa says the government should give these small scale fuel dealers more time since the requirements that need to be fulfilled before these licenses are renewed are quite many and there is need for more time to be able to fulfill all these requirements.
