Museveni welcomes the delegates, thanks them for standing with Uganda in condemning terrorists who bombed Kampala. He says they are cowards. Museveni says many of the planners of Kampala bombs have been arrested

US Attorney General Eric Holder is invited to deliver a message onto the AU summit on behalf of President Barack Obama. He condemns the bomb attacks on Uganda and promises more U.S. Support for the African Union’s AMISOM peacekeeping mission in Somalia.

Calderon actually says he is the only President outside Africa to have studded in African university…hmmmm! Speaking on behalf of the Caribbean, President Calderon says African shares a lot of heritage and interests with the Caribbean. He calls for more cooperation between African and the Caribbean countries.

Dr. Wamutharika says the African Union is to launch decade for women from 2010 to 2020 where all countries will give more focus to the development and rights of women “…promote gender equality and women empowerment…” he says.

Dr. Mutharika who is also the President of Malawi calls upon African countries to implement resolutions reached by the member states. He says the AU has issued many communiques and resolutions which are not implemented
“Take concrete actions towards addressing maternal and child death in Africa…God bless Africa.. I thank you all,” Dr Mutharika concludes.

Namibia President Hifikepunye Pohamba proposes that the African Union adopts a resolution for the formation of an African, Caribbean Diaspora summit for mapping out plan for action for enhanced cooperation between the Caribbean and Africa.

Pohamba calls proposes that the AU summit calls on the US to remove the long standing embargo and sanctions imposed on the republic of Cuba to enable Cuba to enjoy “all legitimate opportunities for its development” Pohamba is supported by South African President Jacob Zuma. Libya and Angola also supported this resolution.

Dr. Mutharika asks the supporters of these resolutions to sit after the break and design the wording of the resolutions so the AU heads can adopt them. He brings the opening session to a close, but first urges AU heads of state or their representatives to sign and ratify conventions passed by AU so they can come into force.

Crested Crane, if you mean the Ordinary Assembly of heads of State, only one woman. Liberia President, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf…but all the men are escorted by their wives, the first ladies, who also attended today’s opening session

Twinomujuni, the summit continues. All leaders who spoke condemned the bombings. The African Union leaders are due to increase the mandate of the African Union Peace Keeping Mission in Somalia so that it can go after the ‘terrorists’.
