Charger bicycles which allow riders to charge their batteries as they ride have excited Ugandans. Nokia launched the bicycles in Nairobi Kenya in June.
Many Ugandans have no access to phones during day time because they don’t have sources of power to recharge their phones.
The people Ultimate Media have interviewed in different parts of the country have said with the introduction of charger bicycles they will no longer need to have power at home to recharge their phones.
James Mugume, a bicycle cyclist in Mbarara town says he now only needs to keep on riding and recharges his phone. The introduction of charger bicycles is likely to increase phone use in East Africa.
The charger bicycle uses dynamo whose continuous rotation by the bicycle tyre produces energy that can charge phones.
