The government of Uganda has pledged to train more oil experts. According to the budgetary framework paper for 2010 to 2015, the government of Uganda budgeted 19.5 billion shillings to train oil experts in petroleum exploration and production.
The programme is intended to create more local oil experts. Uganda recently confirmed the presence of over 2.5 billion barrels of crude oil. The official production of Uganda oil starts in three years time according to the ministry of energy.
The production of oil in Uganda is delayed due to increasing disagreements on marketing, pricing and production. Oil production in Uganda is expected to attract over 2.5 billion dollars in revenue collection per annum.
The government of Uganda wants oil to be refined in Uganda before it is exported but the foreign companies holding the contracts of mining the country’s oil want to export it in crude oil form.
President Museveni says refining oil in Uganda will create more jobs for Ugandans, meet the local fuel demand and increase the production of oil related products like plastics.
