The Inspector General of Government Rapheal Baku is blaming his failure to catch the big fish in the fight against corruption on inadequate resources.
The IGG has often been accused of targeting the lower level officials in government while the higher ranking officials, who take even more of the tax payers’ money go scot free.
Baku says, out of the 31 billion shillings the inspectorate requested for last year, only 18 billion shillings was approved by parliament, leaving significant gaps.
He was today addressing a meeting of IGGs from Africa at Munyonyo.
Baku says, there is need to beef up the capacity of the Inspectorate through allocation of more funds and equipment needed for investigations such as recorders and cameras.
The IGGs from Africa are pledging to work with the African Union to fight corruption on the continent.
