Uganda will become the first African Country to host the International Conference on Agricultural Statistics when it hosts the 5th ICAS conference between 13th and 15TH October 2010 at Speke Resort Munyonyo.
The National Coordinator of the conference, James Mubiru has told journalists at the Statistics house that the conference will bring together researchers and policy makers from more than 140 countries to review issues related to agriculture statistics around the world.
The objective of the conference is to enable participating countries to share the best practices in the use of new tools and methods to integrate agriculture statistics into national statistical systems. The conference is being run under the theme “Intergrading agriculture into national statistical systems”.
Mubiru says 500 delegates are expected to turn up for the conference in October.
He says this conference comes to Uganda at the right time because this is the time that Uganda is rebuilding its agricultural data systems through many different efforts such as rebuilding of the permanent Agricultural Statistics system that will identify the indicators to be monitored in the agricultural survey and censuses.
Mubiru says he hopes this conference will help Uganda quickly deal with that matter.
The ICAS conferences are held after every three years aimed at addressing issues related to agricultural statistics and the first ICAS conference was held in 1998 in Washington DC.
