The biggest number of cases of maternal deaths in Uganda occurs as a result of hemorrhage (acute bleeding during delivery).
According to a policy brief of the Uganda Women’s network, excessive bleeding is responsible for 26% of the maternal deaths in Uganda.
UWONET says Sepsis (infections) cause 22% of the maternal deaths , while13% of the deaths during giving birth is a result of obstructed labour.
The group also says unsafe abortions and high blood pressure cause 8% and 6% of maternal deaths respectively.
Other causes of maternal deaths like malaria HIV/AIDS cause 25% of maternal deaths in Uganda.
Uganda maternal mortality rates remain unacceptably high with about 6,000 women in Uganda dying every year due to pregnant related causes.
