Uganda Peoples Congress (UPC) has mourned the former President of Uganda, Godfrey Lukongwa Binaisa. Binaisa passed away on Thursday morning at his home in Kizungu Zone, Makindye Division in Kampala district.
The President of UPC, Dr. Olara Otunnu has said UPC is in a moment of silence, grief and shock over Binaisa’s death.
Otunnu says the news about the death of the 90 year old former Ugandan president has paralysed all members of UPC and the country at large.
He says the late Binaisa is among the list of Ugandans who contributed to the political growth of UPC and the establishment of democracy in Uganda.
Binaisa was born on May,30 1920, served as President of Uganda from June 20, 1979 to May 12,1980 and also served as Uganda’s Attorney General in the post independence government of Uganda.
Binaisa studied at King’s College Budo and Makerere College before later earning an LLB in law from King’s College London in 1955. He was appointed a Queen’s Counsel (QC) in 1956.
