Late Geoffrey Binaisa
The members of the public have today morning viewed the body of the fallen President of Uganda, Godfrey Lukongwa Binaisa and signed a condolence book.
Binaisa, 90, died on Thursday last week in a sleep at his home in Kizungu zone, Makindye division, Kampala district.
Binaisa will be buried on Wednesday at Nateete Church of Uganda in Kampala, the same place where his late father, Canon Binaisa was buried.
The body of Binaisa is currently at Parliament where it lies in state. The deceased wanted to be buried at Kololo Independent Grounds, the place where two Uganda’s heroes, Prof. Yusufu Kironde Lule and Ignatius Musaazi were buried.
Binaisa’s clan leaders had however demanded to have him buried at his ancestral burial grounds in Namusera on Kampala –Hoima road.
The body of Binaisa will leave Parliament for his home in Makindye at about 4:00pm. There will be a funeral service at Namirembe Protestant Cathedral before the burial in Nateete.
Youths disappointed by the poor organisation of the National Youth Convention
A cross section of youths in Uganda have expressed disappointment over the poor organisation of the 2010 National Youth Convention that saw many of them register late for the convention.
The convention that started on Sunday August 8 2010, had thousands of youth brave the scorching sun on Monday 9 2010 just that they may register. Many said they had to wait till late on Monday Evening before they could register for the convention a day after the start of the convention.
Ivan Businge who traveled from Hoima to attend the convention has told Ultimate Media that he was disappointed with the organisation because he came on Sunday afternoon but it was not until it was coming to Mid- Night that Sunday that he managed to get some food to eat yet he had traveled from Hoima earlier in the day.
Businge says he was also disappointed by the way in which they were training the youths at the convention. Other than teaching practical aspects that can help transform the youth, he says most of the lectures are about theoretical aspects about the youth like the statistical figures that show the plight and the position of the youth in Uganda.
However the Chairman of the Youth Rubaga Division, Issa Ssebuliba says the delay in registration is because divisions were told to bring 50 youths each but most of them brought more which means that the number of youths at the convention were more than the expected number.
The National Youth Convention that that started on 8th will end on 12th August 2010 and is targeting to reach out to over 6000 youths. The government promised this to pay more attention to the needs of the of the budget of the Financial Year of 2010/2011
