The Minister of Uganda for Health, Dr. Stephen Malinga has said malaria deaths are on steep decline in Uganda due to the government’s serious efforts to eliminate it throughout Uganda.
He says hardly any children died of malaria in urban centres in Kampala and other parts of the country since May 2010. Addressing journalists in Kampala today, Malinga said the government wants to completely eradicate malaria from Uganda.
The minister says the ministry is receiving positive reports from districts that malaria deaths are on decrease in Uganda. Malinga says the people in Uganda who get malaria and immediately visit hospitals recover within 48 hours of treatment.
Malaria has been and is still one of the leading causes of death in Uganda despite the HIV/AIDS pandemic.
