The government of Uganda has asked the Ministry of Public Service to start taking action against health workers who absent themselves during work time without clear reasons.
The Commissioner in charge of Planning at the Ministry of Health, Dr. Francis Runumi says the Ministry of Public Service must implement its orders as it’s stipulated.
He says there are over 47000 doctors who are on the public service pay roll but only 28000 are working, but even out of that, few are working up to their expectations. Runumi was addressing journalists in Kampala today.
He says it’s time for the public service to start setting up strong monitoring standards to ensure that service delivery in the ministry improves.
He says even those who are performing to the expectations must be rewarded; this will act as a motivation to the workers.
